Cold - Hypothermia and other
cold-related illnesses are responsible for around 30,000 deaths in
the UK every winter. Accidental hypothermia is a drop in body
temperature to below 35.5°C. Older people are at risk of
hypothermia not only in cold weather but in mildly cool
temperatures as well. It has been suggested that for every 1°C
that the winter temperature drops below the average there are
8,000 more deaths in Britain.
Comfort - The Scottish Power
Cold Alarm is a new invention that can help to save thousands of
lives. It is very easy to use. If the temperature of the room
where the Cold Alarm is located falls to dangerous levels, a
series of flashing lights and a buzzer provide an instant alert.

It's easy to understand |
| |
|
 |
If the room
temperature is above 18°C, the green light will flash
approximately every ten seconds to show that the environment
is safe. |
 |
If the
temperature drops to between 12°C and 18°C, an amber light
will flash, signalling that the room temperature is posing a
risk to health. |
 |
If the room
temperature drops below 12°C, the red light will flash
continuously. If it falls under 7°C, the buzzer will also
sound, indicating that the room has become dangerously cold. |
